About this scholarship
The University of Edinburgh School of Informatics' PhD studentship pool for September 2027 Institute-led PhD starts — covering IGS, Edinburgh Doctoral College and EPSRC DLA awards administered by IGS — with three years of fees at Home or Overseas rate and a UKRI-level stipend for three and a half years. Round 1 closes 30 November 2026 and a supervisor must be identified before applying.
Minimum requirements
Complete PhD application to any Institute-led PhD degree for a September 2027 start, submitted by the stated deadlines, regardless of fee status; candidates must meet or be expected to meet entry requirements and have identified a supervisor. Not eligible: MScR applicants, CDT programme applicants, applicants for start dates other than September 2027, and incomplete applications (missing documents or supervisor).
Application checklist
- Identify a supervisor and confirm the Institute-led PhD degree before applying (incomplete applications, including missing supervisor, are not eligible)
- Prepare a high-quality research proposal, transcripts and certificates, and supportive references before applying
- Submit a complete PhD application via the relevant Degree Finder apply link on EUCLID by Round 1: Monday 30 November 2026, 23:59
- Attend interview with the supervisor and Institute Academic Selector if invited (in person or online)
- Check official page for the Round 2 (Home applicants only, early 2027, deadline not fixed yet) if Round 1 is missed
Application tips
- Find the supervisor before you apply — applications without a supervisor are ineligible, not merely weaker.
- Apply by Round 1 (30 November 2026) even if you are a Home applicant: Round 2 is Home-only, its deadline is not fixed yet, and Round 1 covers all fee statuses.
- Do not apply through a CDT programme route for this funding — CDT applications are explicitly excluded from IGS studentships.
- Budget visa, Immigration Health Surcharge and relocation separately: the studentship explicitly excludes them.
Always verify deadline, amount and eligibility on the official page before applying. Values marked ESTIMATE are based on a previous cycle and are not confirmed for the current round.
